Microsoft Excel spreadsheets may soon be more dynamic than ever thanks to a potential breakthrough.
For the first time in Excel, you will be able to insert images directly into cells, making them part of a worksheet instead of floating on top.
As a result of this new function, Microsoft says that Excel sheets can now be customized and personalized, giving your work a whole new dimension.
Microsoft Excel images
On the official Microsoft 365 roadmap , the company notes that users will be able to insert images directly into cells and also customize them using the new “IMAGE” function.
An Excel table can be sorted and filtered, moved and resized, and even contain images.
Since the feature is still listed as “in development,” it is unclear exactly how it will work in practice. We should learn more about how it works soon, since its expected general availability date is December 2022.
Microsoft says the feature will be available on desktop, web, Mac and Android platforms when it launches.
A new update to Microsoft Excel will help improve the software’s appeal and user-friendliness as it encourages greater collaboration across teams in the age of hybrid working.
The company has recently announced it will implement “@mentions” in Excel to make collaborating on spreadsheets easier.
The @mentions feature allows users to tag their colleagues, both inside and outside their organization. You can use these tags to request edits, add more information, or clarify certain points, but you can also use them to create, assign, and track tasks within your workbook.
Recently, the company added the ability to add hyperlinks to spreadsheet comments, rather than copying and pasting plaintext as previously required.
